| Agua de afuera no enseńa | Rain
cannot teach, |
| mas cuando el agua del ojo | for only when tears |
| cae
al labio, sólo él, |
fall
to the lips, |
| sabe entonces | does the mouth know |
| para qué sirve la sed. | what
thirst is for. |

| How the unseen reaches up |
| to grasp at dangling limbs, |
| to caress unblemished thighs, |
| warm flesh, lightly browned |
| by the South American sun. |
| So much to see and feel |
| before time takes it away: |
| Lift up that pretty French dress. |
